Welcome to our Things to do section. Below you'll find a few activities to enjoy in the local area. So whether you're on holiday or business you can relax or get active in the Peak District National Park.
 
         
 

Walks – you may walk from the house if you wish or there are many pleasant walks in the surrounding countryside all within 30 min drive.

Dovedale and the ‘stepping stones’ are just 40 mins (app 2 mls) walking from the house.The Tissington Trail passes us within ¼ ml, this trail which is the old railway track from Ashbourne to Buxton makes for very easy walking or hire a bike and you can cover quite a distance through countryside with wonderful views. The trail also joins with the High Peak Trail which takes you west towards Wirksworth.

  Carsington Water – just 5 mls by car is now in its 10 th year is maturing as a diverse and very pleasant venue for many pastimes. To walk or cycle the 9 mls round is a wonderful experience there is even a hostelry at Carsington village to take refreshment or a meal. The naturalist will find hides to enable undetected study of wildlife. Water sports exist alongside these activities and cleverly do not impinge on each other, Wind surfing, yachting, fishing,   Carsington Water, Derbyshire  
         
 

Alton Towers – the well-known adventure park is just 8 mls distant.

Stately Homes – many fine houses of this nature are all within 25 mls the most famous is that of Chatsworth House with its extensive parkland, Hardwick Hall, Bolsover Castle etc.

If you drive to the north of the Peak District National Park it will have become the Dark Peak due to the grit stone rock deposits and moor land, here you will find the ‘dams’ namely Ladybower, Derwent and Howden. Two complete villages, Derwent and Ashopton, were lost due to their construction, though now picturesque in their own right.

Derwent dam was used during WW2 to train Lancaster bomber crews for the dropping of the famous ‘bouncing bomb’.
